Gems of the Côte d’Azur

This morning, lovers of nature and walkers head off for the Jardin Remarquable, Domaine du Rayol botanical gardens, with truly panoramic views over the Mediterranean. This peaceful setting brings together landscapes from around the world. What do they have in common? Their Mediterranean climate! Discovery guaranteed!
After a gourmet breakfast, remember to pack your beach essentials. On your travels, the azure blue of the Mediterranean is never far away.

You take the panoramic coast road to Rayol Canadel sur Mer. Driving along the winding coast, you’ll see magnificent scenery with the azure blue sea and lush hills. After around 50 minutes’ drive, you reach Domaine du Rayol, known as the ‘garden of the Mediterranean’.
With a spirit of adventure, you’re ready for this delightful discovery walk; you park in the car park, and head to reception where you’re given a map. Let the exploring begin!

You start strolling through the trails, all your senses alert. Eyes wide open, like an explorer, you move as if travelling from country to country, seeing the wonders of the flora flourishing in this Mediterranean climate.
Whilst exploring, will you spot the immense dragon trees from the Canary Islands, aloe plants native to South Africa, Chilean wine palms, or even the bamboo groves from subtropical Asia?

Still amazed, you reach the Maison de la Plage (Beach House), where you make the most of a timeless moment above the Mediterranean. Far below, the small concealed beach on the estate is calling you. The sun reflects off the water, while a light breeze cools you down. Perfect for relaxation.
At your own pace, you go back through the lovely paths towards the Café des Jardiniers, where an indulgent stop awaits. A plant-based drink, home-made dessert or full meal. Choose from local seasonal flavours on the menu.

You slowly make your way back to the car, continuing along the coast road. The village of Bormes les Mimosas awaits you, on the headland overlooking the Var’s loveliest beaches.
How lovely to stroll through this hilltop setting! The sightseeing trail takes you through medieval streets and to stunning viewpoints. Charming little squares, quaint paths and authentic shops with the scent of lavender – an unexpected discovery at every turn. In summer, bougainvilleas spread out over the facades of typical Provençal houses, whilst the onset of winter brings flowering mimosa trees.
For your lunch break, you sit down in an authentic restaurant tucked away by an ancient fountain or vaulted passageway.

After your journey through time in the village, you now discover the coastline in Bormes les Mimosas. All the beaches here, by the edge of pine forests and vineyards, together comprise one of the ‘loveliest bays in the world.’
L’Estagnol with crystal-clear waters and Cabasson with a view over the Fort de Brégançon, the presidential summer retreat, stand out; fine sands and postcard scenery entice you for idleness and relaxation.
There is a ‘pay and display’ car park for these two beaches.

The sun goes down on the way back to the resort. As you look out of the window, pines pass by. Back at the campsite, you have a simple yet contented evening meal, to perfect this day exploring the Var coast; melon, goat’s cheese and well-chilled rosé.
The scents of the day still float through the air. As you already know, Provence still has so much to offer…
